Rooney Mara Channels Lisbeth Salander

Call her the Daniel-Day Lewis of increasing young starlets: Rooney Mara stays in character, whether or not she's on set.

The actress chosen to depict fictional icon Lisbeth Salander in the American movie adaptation of "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" sported a dramatic Lisbeth-style haircut and bleached, stabbed eyebrows at the 2010 Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala on Saturday. Mara, 25, who has a essential role as Mark Zuckerberg's ex-girlfriend in "The Social Network," was there celebrating the cast's award for Best Ensemble presentation. She smiled next to co-star Jesse Eisenberg in her first red-carpet appearance since charming the coveted Lisbeth role.

Mara who reportedly beat out Scarlett Johansson for the part has been filming "Dragon Tattoo" in Sweden next to Daniel Craig; although the movie won't hit theaters until December 2011, the fact that Mara is channeling the beloved hacker/hero has elevated her to a whole 'nother level of fame. When the movie lastly hits, she'll be globally famous. It's predictable.

For now, the unassuming star whose past credits include "Youth In Revolt" and the reconstruct of "A Nightmare on Elm Street" could go unrecognized on the street. Well, maybe if she wore a hat the striking hair-eyebrows combo definitely draws notice
